These latches are compatible with antique and pre-bored doors and are specially made for doors with levers. They have a stronger spring than a latch meant for doorknobs.  This spring prevents the lever from drooping.  It allows the lever to turn 27 degrees in one direction.

Backset is the measurement needed to center the doorknob when installed.  It is the distance from the center of the doorknob to the edge of the door.  Most residential doors have a 2-3/8" backset.  This latch comes in 2-3/4" and 2-3/8" backset.
